Scalp pruritus is the most frequent symptom of unhealthy scalp. The cause includes dandruff, seborrhoeic
dermatitis, scalp psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Histamine is an important substance in pruritus and inflammation. Non invasive assessment of histamine level on stratum corneum (SC) showed a strong correlation with prurit perception in patients with dandruff. Using 1% Zinc Pyrithione shampoo, both histamine level in SC and prurit perception in patients with dandruff was decreased.
