Herpes zoster in a 3 month old infant – a case report
Herpes zoster is a viral infection of the skin characterized by vesicular eruption in a dermatomal distribution caused by reactivation of latent herpes varicella-zoster virus in a posterior root ganglion.

Although herpes zoster is usually associated with old age, cases have been reported after exposure to varicella zoster in utero or during the first months of life.

We present a rare case of herpes zoster in a 3 month baby who acquired primary infection in utero from the mother who had varicella infection at 6 months of gestation.
Under topical treatment with acyclovir and antiseptics the lesions regressed after14 days.
