TREATMENT OF POST ACNE SCARS

The scars the acne leaves can be hypertrophic (keloid) or atrophic.
Their treatment is completely different and according to their appearance.
Over the years a wide range of therapeutic methods were used to improve acne scars.

A. Treatment of atrophic scars
For atrophic scars therapy may consist of:
1. Subcision and MDA subcision;
2. MDA dermabrasion;
3. Local injections with collagen, collagen microimplants and other fillers;
4. Gelatin Matrix Implant;
5. Chemical peeling;
6. Multiple combined treatments;
7. Cosmetic camouflag;
8. Surgical excision.
The most common scars on the face are due to acne and no matter whom they were due to, they disfigure and have an important psychological impact on patients.
Since the post acne scars treatment is challenging and difficult, overtime, new techniques have been developed and the oldest ones were modified to improve the risk – benefit profiles. Moreover, different methods of treatment can often be combined in order to bring an optimal correction.

B. Treatment of hypertrophic scars
Keloids respond differently to treatment, and they can represent a challenge.
Their treatment includes steroids, topical strong steroids (creams) or injectable triamcinolone depot, excision, or topical silicone gel, Contractubex gel, but the best option remains their prevention.
